Why the National Council? The work of the National Council of the Church of God (Seventh Day) in Australia is to assist in the church's administrative vision, policies and operations as they relate to the church's International Federation, as well as provide the counsel and consultative process that assist the churches in Australia.
Vision Statement
The Australian National Council (the ‘Council’) will be recognised as a major contributor and influential partner in the role and affairs of the international community of churches. It will promote and elevate recognition of our commitment through the enabling and unifying work of the Gospel in the global and national outreach of the Australian church.
Purpose Statement
The Council acts as a single point of contact between the International Federation, and/or any of its member countries, and the collective whole of all Church of God (7th Day) churches in Australia,
Nationally, the Council may provide assistance in operational and administrative matters, including conflict remediation. It seeks to enrich the lives of all individual members in unity with Christ Jesus.
[The Council is not a theological platform, nor is it required to provide advice on doctrinal matters. Its work does not affect the autonomy of individual church boards.]
Mission Statement
The Council will communicate and establish relations with the International Federation to give the Australian Churches a voice through which they may be encouraged, supported and unified in both their physical and spiritual lives.
The council will plan, liaise with, co-ordinate and put into effect any and all such matters as have been endorsed by its members in order to fulfil the church’s purpose.
Authority Statement
In representing the Australian Churches at both the international and national levels, the Council is subject to Christ as its head (Col 1:18) and the Bible as its sole authority for doctrine and Christian conduct (2 Tim 3:16).
Its administrative power is granted by the nomination and endorsement of the Australian Churches it represents. In international matters the Council can convey, but not bind or enforce, any international directive unless the Australian churches agree to such.
